ADA Celebration

It was a wonderful celebration in downtown Cleveland for the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The turnout was great. See the messages below. The primary organizer was Deborah Nebel, Director of Linking Employment, Abilities and Potential's (LEAP) Public Policy Office.  Mayor Jackson presented a certificate to LEAP and Deborah recognized the work of a broad collaboration to plan the day's events, including a luncheon and workshops that following the noon event.  LMM's Director of Advocacy, Rev. Tony Minor, served on the planning committee and provided a stirring prayer at the end of the noon celebration, and launched balloons.

It was wonderful to celebrate the advocacy work of LEAP and so many other individuals and organizations that brought about the ADA.  This work is very much a part of LMM's history, and one that we will continue to lift up.  A memorable occasion in that history is the bus boycott in Cleveland, an event that Doris Brennan, LEAP's Executive Director, was crucial in organizing.  The website for Channel 3 News now has the video of their news story on this historic event - check out www.wkyc.com/video, and go down the list of videos to the story about the Cleveland ADA Celebration.
